Story

Dhurandhar draws inspiration from real-life RAW operations, notably Operation Lyari, and is set against events like the IC-814 hijacking (1999) and the 2001 Indian Parliament attack. The plot follows India’s Intelligence Bureau Chief Ajay Sanyal who designs a daring covert mission to dismantle a powerful terror network operating from Karachi. To execute the high-risk infiltration, he recruits an unlikely asset — a 20-year-old Punjabi boy imprisoned for a revenge crime. Sanyal grooms the boy into a covert weapon capable of penetrating Karachi’s ruthless underworld. This film is the first part of a two-part saga; Dhurandhar 2 is scheduled for release on 19 March 2026.

Why Dhurandhar Registered a Big Opening

  • Star Power: Ranveer Singh + ensemble cast drew wide interest.
  • Director’s credibility: Aditya Dhar’s previous success (Uri style scale) raised expectations.
  • Real-incident hook: RAW operations & geopolitical backdrop appealed to patriotic and action audiences.
  • December release window: Historically a profitable period (Animal, Pushpa 2).
  • Wide release: 4000 screens ensured strong reach across circuits.

Typical day-1 occupancy pattern (approx): Morning 28–32% • Afternoon 45–50% • Evening 60–70% • Night 70%+
