 Indian cinema is witnessing a grand celebration as superstar Rajinikanth marks 50 glorious years in the film industry, while his latest release Coolie dominates the global box office.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to praise the legendary actor, writing:

Adding to this milestone, Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, released on August 14, 2025, with a record-shattering ₹151 crore worldwide on its first day – the biggest opening in Tamil cinema history.



The film’s advance bookings crossed ₹100 crore in India and USD 2 million in North America, while Day 2 collections hit ₹79.97 crore with Tamil Nadu theaters recording over 63% occupancy. Fans celebrated with milk showers on cutouts, loud dhol beats, and viral videos, with Chennai ticket prices reaching ₹4,500. Even the Singapore Police joined the global craze by sharing a fun reel.


Despite facing piracy issues, Coolie’s momentum is unstoppable, and it is expected to premiere on Prime Video by mid-September 2025.
